Player Advancement Program
Soccer Quest’s Player Advancement Program is designed for our academy players that have the desire to improve their game and reach the next level. Beginning with the transition to 11-a-side, players will be mentored by our own Player Advancement Advisor (PAA) on areas of improvement and how to get to the desired standard. For those striving for provincial or residency teams we can work in unison with each to discuss a path and strategy for our players to get the attention they need. An Individualized Development Plan (IDP) will be created and for each player in the program a combination of both online and in person sessions are focussed on the areas that each player needs to develop. A session may consist of a variety of activities to help the athletes grow, such as; reviewing and analyzing game tape of their own or of the pros, individual skills training, fitness and agility drills, small group or work, or when they approach graduation, help finding a program and achieving their post SQ goals.
The Player Advancement Program aids players in reaching the next level by finding a program that fits both player and institution. If a player wishes to join a college or university program our PAA will help them with making contact, registering for ID camps, exploring options, signing for a program, applying for admission or scholarships, writing reference letters, and any other area our players need guidance. After signing for any program, our PAA will work with the recruiting coach on where they see the player fitting into their system and what we can do to make sure our SQ graduates are up to speed for their new homes before we move them on.
We feel at SQ that it is part of our duty to grow our players’ love of the game throughout their youth careers and help them continue their soccer pathways to whatever heights they are willing to work for.

Operations
The Player Advancement Program is divided into two groups; U-16+ and U-15-, and two sections, on-field and off. This is for two main reasons:
- The younger players will be focussing more on tactics, shape, formations (basics) in their online classroom where as the older players will be focussing more on post secondary opportunities and the finer points of the game.
- For the on field small group sessions. Each group of 4 will be divided by level and not by position. We may have positional specific sessions eventually or in addition to but to start and build momentum, having players work with 3 similarly leveled players will keep the standard of the session high. We want players to be tired but inspired after a one-hour session. It should be obvious to parents they have been through the paces.
Discussions via email and the Google Classroom will be ongoing but each player in the Player Advancement Program will have the opportunity to meet with the Player Advancement Advisor in person whenever desired and a meeting arranged, however, as part of the program and process, a monthly(?) meeting will be scheduled. In these discussions players will go through the last two weeks of game footage, feedback from Advancement Coaches, Team Coaches, watch professional clips, or review the player’s IDP and make changes where necessary. Younger players may have questions about formations they did not want to ask in front of their peers or older players might have questions about College or Universities. The use of the time will differ for each individual player but the offer and option are there.
The Online section is up and running although it needs some rejigging as it has grown quicker than expected (not a bad thing). The younger players are getting lost in the University materials and the older players saying its too much to sift through despite it being organized into numerical steps and many of them have finished Step 1: A survey about their own soccer experience and goals. That being said, that is all on me and I will roll out the update to you once I have got it in place.
On the other hand, the On-Field section needs to get up and running. We are not only losing money but these other guys (Sagno, Elijah Dos Santos) do not share our values and philosophy so it would be better if we had SQ coaches that were former SQ players in place to lead these sessions. Numbers are decent if rates stay consistent at KCS and we have a calling for it already.

Numbers
The Player Advancement Program in itself is considered free, however, there will have to be a charge for the on-field sessions. At max. we can have four groups of four on an outdoor field at one time. In the gym, only two groups.
Noel and Aidan are unlicensed but are running small groups and have a draw that me, you, and Jamie just don’t have to teenage players. So, my idea was pay them each $25 per session. To start, we will only run two groups and each coach can have an end with a group of 4 giving us 8 players working total.
Jamie has given me numbers of $40 an hour for the field at KCS and $60 for the gym.
Outdoor
2 Groups of 4
Facility rental = $40 per hour
2 Coaches = $50 per hour (@ $25 per hour per coach)
1 PAA = $28 per hour (30 mins to plan each groups’ session)
Expenses = $118 per session
Income = $200 Per Session
If we charge each player $25 per session then SQ profits $82 per session.
4 Groups of 4 (Would need to consider spacing, most likely 3 groups max)
Facility Rental = $40 per hour
4 Coaches = $100 per hour
1 PAA = $28 per hour (2 hours = $56)
Expenses = $196 per session
Income = $400 per session
Profit for SQ = $204 per session
Indoor
2 Groups of 4
Gym rental = $60 per hour
2 Coaches = $50 per hour (@ $25 per hour per coach)
Expenses = $110 per session
Income = $200 per session
Profit = $90 per session
I think it would be wise if we offer these sessions in two packages. Weekly and Bi-Weekly. Some kids will want to do it every week and can afford $100 a month for extra training but not all. We would need to have an even number of groups and consider commitment. For $25 per session none should miss and if they do miss a certain amount, we need to replace them since all sessions are designed for groups of 4. Obviously, there will be drills where number does not matter at times but for planning purposes and coach to player ratio for advertisement, we do need to set a number and Dave and I think 4 is most appropriate.
Now, Dave keeps saying these need to be offered as part of the Player Advancement Program but we have advertised it as a free program and can’t go back on that now so we would need to clearly state you can be part of the PAP and not do the additional training. Not sure how to go about that but if we say its on offer and a new addition or something then we can make it work as a branch of the program somehow.
